TikTok creators consistently over-index on reach and under-index on rate. The platform gives small accounts distribution that no other app matches, but the per-post fee brands pay is lower than Instagram at the same follower count.

The Creator Rewards Programme pays roughly £0.30–£0.80 per 1,000 qualified views on videos longer than one minute. That is meaningful at scale but rarely a living: for most creators it is 10–20% of total income.

Sponsorships are where the money is. Expect £25–£90 per video as a nano creator and £90–£420 in the 10k–50k band, with volume making up the difference — six sponsored videos a month is normal on TikTok versus four posts on Instagram.

TikTok Shop and affiliate commission is the fastest-growing line. Product-led creators in beauty, home and gadgets frequently make more from commission than from either the fund or brand deals, because purchase intent on the app is unusually high.

The practical playbook: post daily, keep one repeatable format, hook in the first two seconds, and route your most engaged viewers to an owned channel so a single algorithm change cannot halve your income.
